Symbols In Nature: Reconnecting to Yourself Through What You See

Have you ever noticed how a feather at your feet, a certain tree you always pass, or even the shape of a cloud can feel like it's speaking to you?
These are symbols in nature - personal, powerful messengers that help us make sense of what is going on inside.
In times of transition, loss, or emotional overwhelm, our nervous systems naturally look for ways to regulate and understand. One of the most ancient tools for this is symbolism - finding meaning in the world around us.
Why do symbols matter?
Symbols give shape to what feels too big, too confusing or unspoken.
Psychologically - they help us to bring unconscious feelings to the surface in an safe, contained way.
Spiritually - they can remind us that we are connected to something bigger than ourselves.
Creatively - they open up space for self-expression beyond words.
When we notice a symbol in nature, it can feel like a mirror - reflecting back the state of our inner world, or giving us guidance for our next step.
How to work with symbols in nature
Slow down and notice what draws you - take a walk with no agenda. See what catches your attention - a stone, a pattern in bark, bird in flight. Don't overthink; let your body lead.
Ask: "What does this mean to me?" You don't need a universal definition. What does this symbol bring up for you right now? (For example - a feather might be like lightness; a fallen branch might represent letting go.)
Reflect and respond - Journal or create around it. Draw the symbol. Write a few words. Or, simply sit with it and take a photo, to either write about or create art with it later. You are beginning a dialogue with your inner self.
Reconnecting to Self Through Nature's Symbols -
This practice helps us to come home to ourselves - to our emotions, intuition, and the deeper layers of our being. It's especially supportive when navigating grief, stress or periods of change.
Symbols bypass the analytical mind. They allow us to feel, to process, and to integrate our experiences in a way that feels grounded and whole.
An Invitation -
This month, take some time to explore symbols in your environment.
What calls to you?
How does it reflect your current journey?
What might it be inviting you to release, embrace, or understand?
In Joy,
